  1. Whit this Art of "Effortless effort" it connects to me as a writer because sometimes I don't know what to write. Sometimes I can't know what to write. Sometimes I can't think about what to write, but simply something just come out and I can't know what's it's about until I take a second to look back on what I did. Effortless effort I say Den/Den (Like 10/10 but better).

  2. Well, the essay shows me how poetry comes naturally to some people. That's not really it for me. When I write, I carefully place pieces together to make the sentences flow nicely. So while it may be as simple as riding a bike as riding a bike for some people, it's more like putting a puzzle together for me.

  4. Hirschfield discusses how you should love poetry if you want to write it. She also discusses how effective using figurative language is in writing poetry, even claiming that "Shaped language is strangely immortal...". Another major thing she addresses is how having good storytelling in your poetry is a key element of writing a good poem. She goes into quite a bit more, very detailed, which is helpful to aspiring poets and/or writers.

  5. While reading Hirshfield wrote, I was thinking about it and I like the way that she speaks about "language awakening it's own connections." I can relate to this because sometimes you don't know what to write about, but when you realize all the things that you been through in life, you realize that you have lots of things to say and write about. Sometimes it can be as simple as a family situation, or an embarrassing moment that happened when you were younger. As I think about these things, there is a lot of experiences that people want to hear about, and people want to hear what's in your mind and your creativeness. Hirshfield also spoke about violinist and dancer always repeating the same movements (which added a visual in my mind of them practicing for a concert since SOTA has had many for these majors), but when something is repeated for a long time, you start to get used to it, so every time you try your best instead of feeling bored. "Expended effort weaves us into a task, and successful engagement, however laborious, becomes also a labor of love." Effortless Effort meaning that if you don't even know what to write about( and there will be times like that), but you try your best, you will start getting better on getting more ideas and you would love what you write.

  6. the discussion in the essay is more for the inspiration for those who really love poetry and has the passion to write it. Giving the audience ideas of how the poem could be structured to make it better.

  7. This essay reflected on writing poetry and how it gets intact with the deepest parts of you and draws itself out and almost writes out all on it's own. There are poets that effortless are able to write poems. I know I as a writer have days where it seems the story or poem is writing itself, while other's, and far too often, I am unable to write. When I am in a place where I am unable to conjure up words, I try to take a moment to think over the things both inside and around me. Inspiration is all around you if you look for it. As long as you keep at something, you will become more accustom to it, until finally it functions within you, and is another part of you.
I definitely enjoyed this article and I plan to read a few more articles on this website. The E.E. Cummings one surely caught my attention.

  12. Although the essay was long, it gave me a clear understanding of what poetry is, and how we write it. It kind of gave the idea at what it’s like to be a poet.
I especially like the first line, “every good poem begins in language awake to its own connections” because, she’s saying the the poem, even before you’ve began to write it already knows itself, and knows more than the mind.
I also liked “Difficulty itself may be a path toward concentration.” I liked this a lot, because she’s letting the audience know, without saying it directly, that things are going to be difficult, but that’s alright, and in order to get better, you really have to focus on the task, to overcome it. It may take longer than you’d like, but you can still accomplish it.
I also liked that when she was referring to poetry, that not only did she say that poetry, expresses feelings, but she also said that it can show ideas, and thoughts. This was important, because a majority of people that think poetry is there, to express yourself, and or feelings, when really poetry can be about anything. As long as it’s set up in the right way. Overall, after reading the essay, I know get a little more of an understanding at what it’s like writing poetry, and being a poet.

  14. The essay discusses about many topics like the art and the process of writing poetry itself. One thing that I learned from reading this essay is that you have to be in sync with your poem and really put everything you have into writing it. You have to look deep into yourself and really put in the effort to compose a great poem. One of the things that I liked about the essay is this quote from Hirshfield,
"Voice … is the body language of a poem — the part that cannot help but reveal what it is."
